BOOK WEEK
We have book week to get kids good at reading and spelling.
During the week we do lots of reading and listening to stories
On parade day we get to go out of school and show off our costumes because we get to dress up as our favourite book characters.
We thank Whaea Becky for keeping our library at school so we can access lots of books to read.

Soccer at the Olympic Games

Football basics
Football matches are played by two teams of eleven players. The aim of the game is to score more goals than the other team. And yes you guessed it, the team who scores the most goals wins the match.

Medal Events
There are men's teams and women's teams in soccer. The winner of the final wins gold, the losing team wins silver and the winner of the semi final wins bronze.

How the Competition Works
The teams are split into four groups. The top teams from each group goes through to the quarter finals. They then play to knock out the other teams to get in to the finals. If the game is tied up at full time the game goes into extra time of fifteen minutes each half. If the score is still tied it goes to penalty shoot out. This is when each player takes a shot at goal with only the goalie in goal defending it.

New Zealand All Whites at the London Olympic Games 2012
Unfortunately New Zealand did not qualify this time round at the Olympics. Its a tough game when New Zealand is such a small country in comparison to Great Britain where football started.

I NGA Harirei

I nga Harirei .  My whanau and I drove to Hokitka  because of the big waves and the drifwood competition.  When we got to Hokitika the first thing we did was go and see the waves. The waves were bigger than a house so we were there for a little time. The second thing we did was go and see the drifwood  competition where we saw a manu that was made out wood. And we saw a car and that was too made out of wood .  It looked cool.

On the second thing of my harirei my whanau  and I went to go and see the Kiwi, turtle, tuna and the little fish.  It was cool seeing the Kiwi .  We got to see the Kiwi
being fed  then we went to see the tuna.   It's so yucky.   See it ! Its like the thing that comes out of our nose moving on. I was looking at the  turtles which were cool all green looking. After we saw everything  we went back home and it was  good to  be back.

Kapahaka at the Turangwaewae Festival

On Friday we had a turangwaewae festival. It was cool.  There were food stalls, games, drinks and entertainment. The Whanau class performed. We  did Utaina , Haere Mai Nga Iwi,  E Te kokara, Anei Ra Te Kura and  Hutia Te Rito. After we did our performance we all went to go and see the different food stalls and games.   It was fun.
The end.

VISIT KAITERITERI

What to see

There are great things to see like

  • see a great view of the beach
  • see little Kaiteriteri
    Kaiteriteri beach
  • and see the best town

Did you know?

The meaning of the name Kaiteriteri is difficult to translate exactly, as it historically has a number of different spelling variations including Kaitiritiri, Kaiteratera, and more commonly, Kaiteretere.
The interpretations of the different variations all share the ideas of food and movement, with meanings ranging from “to eat hurriedly” (J.D.Peart), to “the food drifted, or to eat a company of travellers” (Sherwood Roberts).
Without knowing the story of the original naming though, it is impossible to know the intentions and exact meaning behind it.
